Samuel Update

I don't have much time (imagine that!), but I wanted to give you all a quick update on how Samuel is doing. After spending a week with my family in Florida, a week with David's family in Atlanta, and two days on the road, we are FINALLY in Omaha, where I'll be spending the remainder of my maternity leave (until early November). I can't tell you how good it feels to be in our own space, and to feel completely free to walk around in sweatpants and a nursing bra without having showered all day!!

Samuel is doing great...getting more and more alert with each passing day. He has surpassed his birthweight, and now weighs in at more than nine pounds. His umbilical cord stump fell off last night, which means that we'll finally be able to give him a real bath (and with all that hair, it is long overdue!). Other than that, he is a very mellow, serious baby...just looking around and taking everything in. David and I are adjusting to sleeping in one-hour shifts, and doing everything one handed, since Samuel always wants to be held.

Thank you to everyone who has given us so much help over the past couple of weeks. Our families have been especially wonderful to us, and we are so grateful for their support. I want to give an extra special shoutout to my mom, dad and sister, all of whom were in the delivery room with David and I when Samuel was born. Even though I wasn't at my best (and may have said mean things to every single one of them at some point during my 28 hour labor!), they were unfailingly loving and patient with me, and I couldn't have done it without them. I am so glad that they were able to share that moment with us...I can't wait until Samuel is older and I can tell him about how he was surrounded by so many people who love him when he came into this world. What a lucky little boy!

Below are some new photos of my little man...enjoy!!
